Which Terminal Type is best for you?

LESS than £1,000 per month

If you are taking less than £1,000 per month in card payments, you will generally be better of with a terminal which has slightly higher rates per transaction, but no minimum charge or rental fee. You purchase the terminal and if you don't use it, you pay nothing. even with the slightly higher transaction costs (1.69% for all card types) if you take less than £1,000 per month, you will generally pay less than you would with a rented terminal.
MORE than £1,000 per month

If you are taking more than £1,000 per month in card payments, you will generally be better of with a bespoke fixed contract terminal which has lower rates per transaction. Even though these contracts come with a minimum service charge and rental fee per month, as the transaction rates are usually much lower, if you are taking more than £1,000 per month through your card machine, you should usually pay less then you would with a 'no-contract' terminal.
